Role
SDSN Youth would not be able to exist without its vast network of volunteers, a truly global team brought together to achieve one mission - empowering youth to achieve the SDGs. However, we can only continue to contribute to our mission if we are able to attract the right people into our organization.
We are looking for someone who will be involved in executing projects, such as workshops, mobilizations, activities with the general public, and further actions with the amazonian traditional communities. All the SDSN Youth Amazonia's activities that request a support team to the realization.
Responsibilities
- Executing and giving support in programs in the capital, suburban regions and among the amazonian traditional communities
- Making and managing alliances with other organizations
- Searching and applying for existing opportunities - courses, events, trainings, prizes and others
- Creating and developing projects
- Engaging campaigns and acts of advocacy related to Amazonian causes
- Representing the Network at online and in-person events and other opportunities
Please note: As a virtual network, it is IMPORTANT for Local Volunteers to communicate effectively with their Project Leader and Network Coordinator (NC), reporting back consistently. In a network, which operates across several time zones, reporting and communicating proactively is crucial.
Job Qualifications
The Local Volunteer (Amazonian Operations WG) will be someone who:
- is organized, driven and can work autonomously.
- has impeccable communication skills.
- Enjoys storytelling.
Minimum qualifications:
- Between age 18-30 in order to be eligible for this role (exceptions may apply).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Portuguese. English and/or Spanish is a plus.
- Knowledgeable about the SDGs.
- Undergraduate student or professional in any field.
- Professional or volunteer work experience in a team, ideally related to Amazonian causes and Climate Change.
- Participation on any course, training, research team or network related to Amazonian causes, ideally
- Able to demonstrate that they have the time and resources to commit to this role – candidates with too many overlapping commitments will be exempt from running for this position.
Commitment
Total Weekly Hours:
- 8+ hours per week (minimum)
Conditions
- Duration of Position: The first term is 6 months in total, with a 2 months probation period at the beginning. However, subject to review of work performance, this position may be extended on a 6-month basis.
- Certification: All the hours worked will be accounted for the generation of a Certificate of Contribution.
- Reporting: This position reports to the Deputy Project Lead of Amazonian Operations WG in SDSN Youth Amazonia.
- Payment: Voluntary
Training: All Local Volunteers are required to complete the SDSN Youth Amazonia's training after onboarding.
