Background: An Assistant Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the Management system and associated COPs are implemented effectively. Specifically he will assist the Safety Officer to ensure all daily operational and maintenance activities are carried out according to Management System requirements.
Authority: The Assistant Safety Officer acts under the authority of the Safety Officer and has the authority to stop or question any unsafe act by following procedures and also direct positive action as described by STOP training.
Immediate Subordinates: Visitors, Sub Contractors, Vendors and similar.
Accountable For: Typical Responsibilities & Standards
1) Contribute To The Maintenance Of Health And Safety Systems And Operational Requirements
1 Be aware of new sources of safety information for relevance to the operation and self development needs.
2 Actively seek and update information on developments in safety related areas and make available to Safety Officer
3 Implement Safety Management Systems within personal responsibility and operational requirements.
4 Assist in planned maintenance and certification of Fire Fighting Equipment (FFE) and Lifesaving Appliances (LSA).
5 Issue work orders and request maintenance as necessary to maintain availability of FFE and LSA
6 Clearly and accurately record results of any maintenance work on FFE and LSA or monitoring activities as appropriate
2) Contribute to the Maintenance of the Working Environment and Operational Requirements
1 Assist Safety Officer to carry out inspections effectively and accurately obtaining and recording results accurately
2 Identify, prioritise and act upon potential or real hazards or deviations from requirements discovered.
3 Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, external and internal inspection/audit teams and cooperate as required.
4 Facilitate access of inspection/audit teams to appropriate information.
3) Contribute To The Development And Maintenance Of A Health And Safety Culture At The Workplace
1 Give safe behaviour a high value through your own behaviour, actions and communications.
2 Promote positive safety behaviours and attitudes in self and others. (Use STOP system as appropriate).
4) Contribute To The Reporting, Investigation And Follow Up Of Incidents
1 Effectively report details of incidents and near misses.
2 Effectively assist in the investigations or contribute to investigations of workplace incidents or near misses.
3 Write clear and unambiguous reports as required to the Safety Officer.
5) Prepare and Present Demonstrations and Information And Perform General Security and Heli-Admin Duties
1 Assist Safety Officer to inform new arrivals to the Marine Unit of O&M Contractor procedures, the latest guidelines and relevant COPs.
2 Assist with Inductions of new personnel and with ‘New Start Worker’ procedure.
3 Ensure all Management System training material is accessible to candidates.
4 Assist in coordination, administration and delivery of training events.
5 Maintain records of all safety training carried out on board and pass current summary listing to Operations Office and Monaco.
6 Assist with Heli-Admin, passenger and baggage coordination and loading.
6) Monitor and Maintain Pollution Control Measures.
1 Unplanned discharges to the environment are identified, halted where possible, and reported according to policy, procedure and regulation.
2 Relevant PPE is used to deal with unplanned discharges using company procedures
3 Equipment, waste or other materials for disposal are dealt with according to the correct procedure.
4 Environmental protection and pollution control are enforced effectively with colleagues, subordinates and subcontractors.
7) Emergency Response
1 Carry out Emergency Response role
2 During Emergency Response Drills and training exercises, demonstrate competence.
3 Contribute to exercise design and analysis and debriefing after drills.

Qualifications and Experience:
Experience in servicing/maintaining Fire Fighting Equipment (FFE) and Lifesaving Appliances (LSA).
Experience of helicopter operations
Familiarity with Safety Management Systems
Familiarity in use and operation of PTW, Risk Assessment, Gas Testing,
Some experience of control and monitoring of all hazardous maintenance activities including hot work and confined space entry
FPSO experience preferred
Medically fit to offshore International standards such as ENG1 or equivalent.
Personal Skills
Personal: Safety aware. Positive, reasonably assertive, conscientious. Friendly
Leadership: Good levels of written and spoken English. Initiative.
Technical: Reasonable standard of technical and professional knowledge, of safety systems and hazards of hydrocarbon systems.
IT: Use standard Management System ‘Office’ package electronic mail system.
